Backend Engineer (Golang) – Transfers EU

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential fintech client seeking a Backend Engineer (Golang) to join their team in Berlin. This is an office-first role working on critical financial infrastructure that processes real money transfers across Europe and the UK.

You'll be building and maintaining backend services that connect internal systems with external payment networks, handling SEPA and UK transfer flows. This role offers direct impact on system reliability and customer trust, working with production systems that process financial transactions at scale.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain production money movement backend services, contributing to delivery, observability, and ongoing maintenance
• Own and deliver well-defined tasks and features, contributing to larger projects within the team's domain
• Contribute to technical design and implementation, following established architectural patterns and best practices
• Improve service reliability and quality by writing tests, enhancing monitoring, and following established delivery pipelines
• Support system operations through on-call rotations, incident response, and post-incident reviews
• Apply backend and systems perspective during refinement, raising questions about risks, dependencies, and edge cases
• Collaborate closely with Product, QA, and other engineers to deliver end-to-end transfer and banking capabilities

What We're Looking For

Required skills and experience:

• Experience building backend services in a modern environment and supporting them in production
• Proficiency in Golang, with comfort learning and working with other languages as needed
• Comfortable working with cloud-based systems (AWS), containerized workloads (Kubernetes), and automated delivery pipelines
• Strong code review practices, maintaining high standards of code quality and test coverage
• Understanding of system architecture fundamentals, data modeling, and API design
• Curiosity about how your work fits into broader systems and product experiences
• Clear communication and effective collaboration with engineers, product managers, and stakeholders

Technologies you'll work with: Golang, AWS, Kafka, PostgreSQL, Redis, Kubernetes, Prometheus, Grafana, Honeycomb. The team also actively uses AI-assisted development tools such as Cursor and GitHub Copilot.

Nice to have:

• Exposure to banking, payments, or financial systems, especially in regulated environments
• Experience supporting systems with production traffic, including incident response participation
• Use of AI-assisted tools to improve development speed, learning, or code quality
