About the Role
As the Assistant Marching Band Techniques Instructor, you'll collaborate with the head band director to deliver comprehensive instruction in marching fundamentals, instrumental technique, and ensemble performance. This position combines hands-on teaching with behind-the-scenes program support, ensuring every student musician reaches their full potential on and off the field.
What You'll Do
- Lead sectional rehearsals for specific instrumental groups, focusing on tone quality, rhythm accuracy, and technical skill development
- Teach marching fundamentals including drill, visual technique, and spatial awareness
- Assess student progress and provide constructive feedback to individual performers
- Assist in arranging instructional materials and designing rehearsal plans aligned with the band's performance calendar
- Support equipment management, uniform distribution, and logistics for performances and competitions
- Collaborate with the band director on program outreach and student recruitment initiatives
What We're Looking For
- Strong instrumental technique and expertise in at least one section (brass, woodwind, or percussion)
- Knowledge of marching fundamentals, drill design, and field technique
- Excellent communication and mentoring abilities
- Availability for evening and weekend rehearsals and performances
- Current clearances for Act 126, Act 34, Act 151, and Act 114
- Current tuberculosis screening and physical examination clearance
