Architectural Medical Planner

Join ZGF Architects as an Architectural Medical Planner in our Los Angeles office, where you'll shape the future of healthcare environments. This full-time position invites an experienced healthcare planner to bring expertise in clinical design, medical facility programming, and strategic space planning to high-impact healthcare projects.

About the Role

You'll take on a leadership role in medical planning within our multidisciplinary design practice, working across architecture, interior design, and urban planning disciplines. Your focus will be ensuring that healthcare environments support clinical excellence while meeting the evolving needs of patients, staff, and communities. Reporting to senior leadership, you'll drive complex healthcare planning initiatives from initial concept through implementation.

What You'll Do

• Lead medical space programming and facilities planning for healthcare clients and projects
• Conduct site analysis, building code research, and regulatory review specific to healthcare environments
• Collaborate with clinical stakeholders, hospital administrators, and design teams to translate healthcare goals into actionable architectural strategies
• Develop comprehensive facility plans that optimize workflow efficiency, patient experience, and operational performance
• Integrate healthcare trends, evidence-based design principles, and sustainability goals into project planning
• Prepare planning documentation, diagrams, and presentations for stakeholder review and approval
• Contribute to proposal development and support business development efforts for healthcare sector growth

What We're Looking For

• Minimum 5 years of progressive healthcare design and medical planning experience
• Strong knowledge of healthcare facility types: hospitals, ambulatory surgery centers, clinics, and specialty medical centers
• Familiarity with healthcare regulations, building codes, and planning standards (FGI Guidelines, IBC healthcare sections)
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
• Proficiency in planning software, architectural documentation, and visualization tools
• Bachelor's degree in architecture, healthcare administration, planning, or related field (preferred)
• Ability to manage multiple projects and work collaboratively in a team environment
