AI Research Engineer, Pre-Training

Responsibilities

Our talent team is representing a confidential quantitative trading firm seeking an AI Research Engineer specializing in pre-training. In this role, you will be responsible for improving all aspects of large-scale model training infrastructure. Your work will include kernel development, training data loading optimization, parallelism strategies, networking efficiency, and fault-tolerance systems. You'll collaborate closely with research teams to co-design models and influence the technical roadmap for foundation model development applied to financial markets and alternative data sources.

This position involves working with multiple large GPU clusters to maximize computational efficiency across diverse model architectures. You'll tackle complex engineering challenges where standard solutions don't exist, directly impacting the performance of production systems that process vast amounts of market and language data.

What We're Looking For

• Strong engineering skills in one or more of: CUDA/Triton/Pallas/CuTe DSL kernel development, lower-level PyTorch/JAX/XLA development, CUDA Graphs, or FPGA/ASIC experience
• Minimum two years of professional experience building deep learning systems in any domain (robotics, biology, chemistry, physics, audio, video, recommendations, or similar)
• Demonstrated ability to translate methods between different application areas
• LLM experience is valuable but not required
• Finance or trading experience is not required
