Sr Engineer, Software Engineer (Full Stack)

About the Role

As a Senior Full Stack Engineer at Nationwide, you'll design and develop robust applications spanning frontend and backend systems. You'll balance rapid innovation with production stability, influence architectural decisions, guide junior engineers, and take ownership of complex projects from initial concept through delivery and ongoing optimization.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

• Design and implement full-stack features with attention to performance, security, and maintainability across all layers
• Build scalable backend services and intuitive frontend interfaces that support Nationwide's diverse customer base
• Collaborate with product, design, and engineering teams to translate requirements into technical solutions
• Lead code reviews, provide technical mentorship, and establish best practices across your team
• Identify performance bottlenecks, troubleshoot production issues, and optimize system efficiency
• Contribute to architectural discussions, shape technical strategy, and advocate for sustainable engineering practices
• Support and enhance existing systems while building new capabilities

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience with demonstrated expertise in full-stack development
• Advanced proficiency in modern programming languages and web application frameworks
• Proven experience designing and scaling distributed systems and microservices architectures
• Strong knowledge of database systems, RESTful APIs, and software design patterns
• Experience leading technical initiatives and mentoring engineers
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities with strong attention to detail
• Effective communicator who collaborates well across technical and non-technical teams
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent professional experience
