Machine Learning Engineer – Reinforcement Learning

Pony.ai is seeking a Machine Learning Engineer specializing in Reinforcement Learning to join our team in Fremont, California, United States. This full-time position focuses on developing and optimizing reinforcement learning systems that power our autonomous vehicle technology.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and refine reinforcement learning algorithms for autonomous vehicle applications
• Build scalable RL training pipelines and simulation environments for real-world deployment
• Analyze training data and performance metrics to improve model convergence and behavior
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including computer vision, planning, and controls engineers
• Contribute to research and development of novel reinforcement learning techniques
• Conduct experiments to evaluate and validate new algorithmic approaches

What We're Looking For

• Strong foundation in reinforcement learning theory with hands-on implementation experience
• Proficiency in Python and deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow
• Practical experience with RL algorithms including policy gradient methods, Q-learning, or actor-critic approaches
• Solid understanding of machine learning fundamentals, statistics, and numerical optimization
• Experience with simulation environments or robotics applications preferred
• Excellent problem-solving skills and collaborative research mindset
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or related discipline; advanced degree a plus
