Senior Backend Engineer – Golang

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential fintech client seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to join a newly formed team building critical commercial systems infrastructure. You will be instrumental in automating merchant attribution, commission calculations, and lifecycle tracking—systems that are currently manual and opaque.

In this role, you will:

• Aggregate data from multiple sources to determine acquisition channels and attribute merchant actions such as signups and product adoption
• Establish data models, API contracts, and rule definitions that automate commission workflows for field sales, telesales, partnerships, and referral programs
• Build a centralized event log capturing merchant lifecycle events used across attribution, recommendations, support, and sales operations
• Develop internal tools and APIs enabling sales teams to monitor commissions, modify plans, manage portfolios, and resolve disputes
• Define and document API contracts, schemas, and integration patterns for adoption across engineering teams
• Establish best practices for testing, observability, and incident response within the squad
• Leverage AI and coding tools strategically to scaffold services, write tests, and draft documentation while maintaining full accountability for production code

What We're Looking For

Our client needs someone who brings both technical depth and adaptability to a greenfield environment:

• Strong backend engineering background in Go, or proficiency in typed languages with readiness to ramp up quickly in Go
• Experience designing APIs and distributed systems with clear contracts, versioning, and integration patterns
• Fluency in relational and analytical databases (PostgreSQL, Snowflake) with sound judgment on database selection
• Hands-on experience building Kafka-based event-driven systems, understanding event sourcing and CDC patterns
• Background in auditable, high-trust systems where traceability is paramount—fintech, payments, or similar regulated domains strongly preferred
• Proven ability to build services from scratch in early-stage environments with limited prior context, thriving on ambiguity rather than being unsettled by it
• Deep commitment to testing, observability, and incident response as first-class engineering concerns
• Resourceful and adaptable mindset with end-to-end ownership, able to do more with less and adjust as priorities shift
• Ability to bridge technical and non-technical stakeholders, translating ambiguous problems into clear engineering work and explaining trade-offs effectively
• Pragmatic judgment knowing when to ship value quickly and when rigour is non-negotiable
• Mentorship instincts that raise the bar for the entire team, not just individual output

Pay
