Senior Software Engineer – Engine Orchestration

The Opportunity

Our talent team is representing a confidential enterprise software organization in Munich that is tackling one of the most ambitious distributed systems challenges in the industry. We're seeking a Senior Software Engineer to lead critical engine orchestration work that powers analytical query processing across massive enterprise datasets.

This is a high-impact role within a team that builds and operates the distributed services responsible for running, scaling, and balancing analytical query engines. You'll be at the center of a multi-year technical migration program—one of the largest engineering efforts within the organization—transitioning production workloads to a next-generation query engine while maintaining seamless operations for global customers.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and delivery of microservices in Java, Spring, RabbitMQ, and Postgres from architecture through production operation
• Own and deliver complete feature sets for the premium query engine, addressing new use cases, security hardening, and capability gaps
• Drive query engine migration milestones end-to-end, ensuring operational stability as dependency workflows grow more complex
• Analyze performance differences between query engines on real customer workloads, develop classification tooling, and coordinate cross-team remediation
• Establish AI agent tooling to automate repetitive operational and development processes
• Maintain operational and security robustness of Tier 0 and Tier 1 services throughout active feature development and migration activities
• Participate in and improve on-call rotation practices for critical production systems

What We're Looking For

• University degree in Computer Science or equivalent education
• 5+ years of professional experience building scalable, reliable, testable Java applications with production ownership
• Fluency in Java and Python (required)
• Strong experience with data-intensive, performance-critical distributed systems
• Proven track record rolling out changes across large distributed system fleets using incremental, reversible, measurable approaches
• Experience developing and operating systems that process data workloads at scale
• Deep knowledge of data structures, algorithms, and performance optimization
• Strong understanding of asynchronous and concurrent programming patterns
• Ability to translate ambiguous customer-facing problems into concrete executable plans and communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
• Excellent English communication skills (German is a plus)
• Preferred: Java Spring Boot, Kubernetes, databases, C++
