Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential streaming technology organization seeking a Senior Counsel, Employment and Labor for their Cambridge office. In this role, you will provide strategic guidance on employment, labor, benefits, and related matters across the UK, EMEA, and global operations.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Advising People Business Partners, People Shared Services, Compensation & Benefits, and other partner teams on employment matters including hiring, performance management, grievances, disciplinary actions, investigations, redundancies, reorganizations, and wage and hour compliance
  • Providing counsel on agency worker and contractor engagement, reasonable accommodations, flexible work requests, leaves of absence, employee privacy, data security, benefits, TUPE transfers, and works councils
  • Supporting the development and maintenance of a global employment and labor framework, including handbooks, policies, and procedures
  • Researching and monitoring employment legislation and legal developments, proactively implementing compliance and risk-mitigation strategies
  • Reviewing and advising on contractual agreements with third-party service providers, vendors, and staffing agencies, as well as internal practices for engaging contingent workers
  • Drafting and negotiating employment agreements, performance and disciplinary notices, settlement agreements, and other employment-related documentation
  • Advising on complex and sensitive employment matters, facilitating pre-dispute resolution and positioning the organization for potential employment litigation
  • Managing employment-related claims and litigation globally, including overseeing outside counsel, responding to complaints and settlement demands, and negotiating resolutions
  • Assisting with preparing, reviewing, and implementing employee training programs
  • Supporting additional legal projects and initiatives as needed

What We're Looking For

The ideal candidate will bring:

  • Qualified legal professional with 6 or more years of post-qualification experience advising on employment and labor matters at a law firm or in-house legal department
  • Deep knowledge of UK employment and labor laws, with exposure to additional EMEA jurisdictions or India preferred
  • Prior in-house legal experience strongly preferred
  • Experience advising on employment and labor issues in the technology, entertainment, or content production industries preferred
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple simultaneous projects and deadlines across stakeholders in a fast-paced environment
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively across departments and functions
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Proactive approach to identifying and suggesting process improvements
  • Ability to work independently with an entrepreneurial mindset
