Responsibilities
We are representing a confidential streaming technology organization seeking a Senior Software Engineer with deep Java expertise to join their enterprise platform team in Cambridge. You will serve as a senior technical lead, driving the design and delivery of scalable backend services that power critical business operations.
In this role, you will:
- Design, develop, and deploy scalable web applications and microservices across the full stack, from framework selection to data model design
- Drive architectural discussions, take ownership of new projects, and deliver high-quality software within tight timelines
- Partner with security and compliance teams to ensure applications meet regulatory, security, and audit requirements
- Participate in continuous improvement of engineering tools, cloud-based technologies, and development processes
- Define and participate in Agile development processes, including scoping, technical design, effort estimation, coding, testing, debugging, code reviews, and ongoing maintenance
- Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams across global offices
What We're Looking For
Our client requires a self-driven problem solver with a proven track record building large-scale platform applications. The ideal candidate brings:
- 5+ years of experience delivering multi-tier, highly scalable, distributed web applications
- Deep understanding of software architecture, object-oriented design principles, and data structures
- Extensive experience developing microservices using Java and Python
- Strong experience with test-driven development and automating test cases using Java or Python
- Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases (Oracle, Cassandra) including database design
- Demonstrated ability to be proactive, self-driven, and make practical trade-offs based on business needs
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- BS or MS degree in Computer Science or equivalent
Highly valued experience includes:
- Distributed computing frameworks such as Hive/Hadoop and Apache Spark
- Finance or HR application development
- AWS cloud services (Elastic Beanstalk, EC2, S3, CloudFront, RDS, DynamoDB, VPC, Elastic Cache, Lambda)
- Infrastructure as code with Terraform
- Creating workflows for Apache Airflow
