Staff Software Engineer (f/m/d)

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential retail technology organization seeking a Staff Software Engineer based in Villeneuve-d'Ascq, Nord. This is an individual contributor role with significant technical leadership and mentoring responsibilities across data platform teams.

You will navigate across multiple engineering teams to establish software standards, design infrastructure components, and ensure technical excellence. Your core responsibilities include:

• Software Excellence & Application Governance: Standardize software engineering methods across the data and AI platform. Establish rigorous software frameworks for key internal applications and tooling.
• Platform Tooling & Integration: Develop complex software components including APIs, internal SDKs, and microservices to support data, MLOps, and GenAI teams. Design technical architecture ensuring secure, performant interconnection across the platform.
• Data Exposure: Apply software engineering expertise to strategic API offerings deployed above the data lake. Guarantee high availability, security, and scalability to enable operational and application use cases.
• Real-Time & Streaming Exploration: Leverage knowledge of Kafka and streaming ecosystems to explore and experiment with new real-time analytics engineering architectures.
• Governance & FinOps: Guide architectural decisions with strong FinOps discipline, continuously optimizing execution performance and infrastructure costs.
• Quality & Technical Debt Management: Proactively identify technical debt across the platform and orchestrate remediation efforts with product and engineering teams.

What We're Looking For

• Leadership & Software Excellence: Solid experience in software engineering with passion for development best practices including SOLID principles, TDD, design patterns, and modeling.
• Platform Engineering Culture: Experience building developer-focused products with clean APIs, thorough documentation, and robust SDKs.
• Product Mindset & FinOps: Focus on business value, user simplicity, and cost-effective architectural choices.
• Teaching & Mentoring: Enthusiasm for knowledge transfer, training teams on software standards, and elevating engineer capabilities.
• Communication: Excellent interpersonal skills for collaboration with MLOps teams, product managers, and user teams. Fluent English required for international context.
• Experience: Proven track record as a Senior or Lead Software Engineer (or Backend Engineer) with strong interest in platform topics, cloud infrastructure, or data/AI tooling.

Technical Stack: AWS and GCP cloud platforms, Databricks (Lakehouse, Delta Lake), LLM platforms and agent frameworks, MLFlow, Airflow/data orchestration, Terraform, Docker, Kubernetes, Kafka.
