Data Analyst – SQL / Databricks

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential cybersecurity organization in their search for a Data Analyst to join their Business Intelligence team. In this role, you'll transform operational and customer data into actionable reports and dashboards that drive critical business decisions. You'll work directly with internal stakeholders—including sales compensation teams—to gather requirements, document specifications, and build user-friendly data assets.

Your primary technical work will involve writing SQL views and building dashboards directly within Databricks using data maintained by the engineering team. A unique aspect of this position is context engineering: you'll add structured descriptions and metadata to tables, views, and columns to make data easily discoverable and accurately queryable by AI tools. You'll also validate report accuracy, monitor data quality, and maintain comprehensive documentation.

Location: This is a hybrid position requiring three days per week in either Columbia, MD or Boston, MA.

Responsibilities

• Build and scale the business reporting layer within Databricks for a globally distributed data team
• Write SQL views and create dashboards to support business operations and strategic decision-making
• Partner with non-technical business stakeholders to gather reporting requirements and translate them into technical specifications
• Add structured metadata and descriptions to data objects to support AI-assisted querying and data discovery
• Validate report accuracy and monitor ongoing data quality
• Maintain clear documentation of reporting logic and data definitions for long-term reliability
• Leverage modern AI coding agents such as Databricks Genie or Claude to optimize query development

What We're Looking For

Required qualifications:

• 2 to 4 years of experience in business intelligence, reporting, or data analysis
• Ability to commute to Columbia, MD or Boston, MA three days per week (hybrid schedule)
• Fundamental working proficiency in SQL, including select statements, order of operations, joins, aggregations, and filtering
• Basic to working proficiency with Databricks or comparable lakehouse/cloud data platforms such as Snowflake
• Experience building dashboards using tools like Databricks native dashboards, Tableau, Power BI, or Looker
• Strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively work with non-technical stakeholders
• Detail-oriented mindset with comfort documenting data objects, definitions, and logic

Preferred qualifications:

• Prior experience writing metadata to support data catalogs, semantic layers, or natural language query tools
• Exposure to Python or PySpark within Databricks notebooks
• Familiarity with analytics engineering practices such as dbt or version control systems like Git
• Experience in enterprise software, SaaS, or cybersecurity environments
