Engineering Manager – Observability | Germany | Remote

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential observability platform organization seeking an Engineering Manager to lead their Ingest team. In this role, you will:

• Manage and develop a distributed team of backend and frontend engineers across EMEA and North America, providing regular feedback and supporting career growth through meaningful one-on-one conversations
• Collaborate closely with go-to-market teams to ensure customers and prospects successfully implement observability collection solutions
• Partner with product and engineering leadership to ensure seamless integration of fleet management tools, deployment frameworks, and instrumentation solutions into the end-to-end user experience
• Provide guidance throughout the complete project lifecycle, from early ideation through planning, execution, and post-launch phases, ensuring consistently high-quality deliverables
• Foster a psychologically safe environment where engineers can learn, experiment, and iterate quickly, encouraging innovation and continuous improvement
• Work across team boundaries by contributing to projects outside your immediate scope and partnering with other functions to solve complex customer problems

What We're Looking For

Our client seeks a candidate with:

• Strong experience in observability technologies (particularly OpenTelemetry) or building central control planes that manage distributed collector fleets
• Comfort working with autonomous engineering teams who maintain strong ownership over technical and product decisions
• Balance between people management excellence and staying current with technical trends to understand the challenges your teams face
• Proven ability to collaborate across time zones and cultures in a fully remote environment, using clear and empathetic communication to build trust and psychological safety
• Demonstrated capability to manage complexity, align stakeholders, and elevate team performance to deliver meaningful results
• Deep customer focus, consistently grounding decisions and technical choices in user needs and real-world impact
• Solid understanding of distributed systems principles, including scalability, fault tolerance, consistency, and observability patterns
• Comfort with AI-assisted development tooling and practical experience integrating AI-powered tools into team workflows

This is a 100% remote position. Our client is considering candidates located in Germany, Sweden, Spain, Ireland, and the United Kingdom only.
