About This Opportunity

Our talent team is representing a confidential higher education and research organization in Brest, Bretagne, France. They are seeking a Scientific and Technical Manager to coordinate a major European marine research infrastructure project funded under Horizon Europe. This 18-month contract role will lead consortium coordination for an innovative initiative designed to revolutionize marine observation platforms across Europe.

The project brings together 26 European partners to advance marine research infrastructures by developing integrated tools and services for ocean observation platforms. As Scientific and Technical Manager, you will work closely with the Scientific Coordinator to ensure seamless project implementation, stakeholder coordination, and communication with the European Commission.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate overall project implementation and monitor progress across work packages, deliverables, milestones, deadlines, and key performance indicators in collaboration with the Scientific Coordinator and administrative support staff
  • Monitor project risks, deviations, and corrective actions; propose mitigation or adjustment measures as necessary
  • Lead and coordinate the 26-partner consortium, maintaining regular communication, facilitating collaboration, ensuring effective information flow, and supporting partners in implementing their activities
  • Organize and coordinate consortium meetings including steering committee meetings, technical meetings, and general assemblies, along with their preparation and follow-up
  • Coordinate preparation of project reports and deliverables, consolidating partner contributions and ensuring quality and timely submission
  • Contribute to communication, dissemination, and exploitation of project results through workshops and conferences in coordination with relevant partners
  • Act as main liaison with the European Commission, maintaining regular communication and follow-up with the Project Officer
  • Represent the consortium and build high-level relationships with key stakeholders at national, European, and international levels
  • Conduct travel within France and abroad as required by project needs

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications:

  • Advanced university degree (Master's or equivalent) in Oceanography, Marine Science, Engineering, or related fields; PhD is an advantage
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience (PhD included) in ocean observations or services within ocean observation organizations
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating, managing, and implementing projects, preferably at European or international level
  • Excellent organizational, written, and communication skills
  • Professional command of spoken and written English
  • Good knowledge of French and/or another European language

Desired Qualifications:

  • Motivation and ability to interact with multiple stakeholders at national, international, and interdisciplinary levels including researchers, operators, administrative staff, science officers, and policy makers
  • Degree in management of European affairs or similar
  • Knowledge of major national and EU funding instruments
  • Experience working and collaborating among research infrastructures in the environmental field

Position Details

Contract: 18-month fixed-term contract (CDD)

Schedule: Full-time with travel requirements within France and abroad
