Senior Backend Software Engineer (Ruby on Rails)

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential fintech organization seeking a Senior Backend Software Engineer to join their growing European team. In this role, you will be embedded within a product squad where you'll contribute to building reliable, scalable solutions that serve thousands of users across Europe.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Leading significant technical deliveries from problem analysis through design, implementation, testing, and production operations
• Investigating and resolving complex production issues using monitoring, observability, and data analysis tools
• Designing and evolving robust backend solutions while identifying opportunities for performance, scalability, and reliability improvements
• Conducting high-quality code reviews, pair programming sessions, and contributing to technical documentation and RFCs
• Collaborating with cross-functional teams to unblock technical challenges and communicate progress, risks, and decisions to stakeholders
• Acting as a technical mentor to other engineers, sharing knowledge and providing actionable feedback
• Participating in the broader engineering community through onboarding, technical content creation, and incident resolution

What We're Looking For

Our client is seeking an experienced backend engineer with the following qualifications:

• Strong hands-on experience with Ruby on Rails (minimum 7-8 years required)
• Deep technical expertise combined with strong product and business understanding
• Proven ability to solve complex technical problems in sophisticated domains
• Collaborative team player with excellent communication skills and the ability to articulate technical concepts clearly
• Track record of taking ownership and delivering pragmatic, reliable solutions
• Ability to quickly become autonomous on high-impact initiatives when joining new teams
• Experience with AI-assisted development tools while maintaining code quality standards
• Must be based in Europe within a maximum two-hour time difference from CET

Pay

Compensation details will be discussed during the screening process based on your experience and location within Europe.
