Technology Cost Analyst

Responsibilities

We are representing a specialist consultancy client seeking a freelance Technology Cost Analyst to support client assessments across the UK. Working primarily remotely, you will help build evidence-based views of technology spending for organisations undergoing change.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Collecting and reconciling technology team costs, supplier expenditure, licensing fees and hosting charges
• Standardising cost definitions to enable fair comparison across different sourcing models
• Comparing internal delivery costs with external supplier options, including transition expenses
• Building first-year cost estimates for proposed technology changes alongside technical architects
• Applying credible peer benchmarks where evidence supports it, and documenting limitations transparently
• Producing clear Excel models and concise findings that senior stakeholders can validate

Assignments typically involve around seven working days spread across evidence review and recommendations phases. Scope and duration are agreed for each engagement.

What We're Looking For

• Demonstrable experience analysing technology expenditure, IT finance or consulting cost models
• Strong Excel skills with the ability to produce clear, traceable calculations
• Ability to distinguish between recurring costs, one-off expenses, cash savings and released capacity
• Experience comparing supplier costs and internal team costs on a consistent, like-for-like basis
• Comfort working with incomplete evidence and stating assumptions clearly
• Financial services sector experience is advantageous but not essential
• FinOps or technology business management experience is welcomed

Pay

This is a day-rate freelance contract position. The client typically pays £550 to £675 per day depending on relevant experience. Rates exclude VAT where applicable. Contracting arrangements and tax status will be confirmed before assignment.
