Senior Backend Engineer | Cybersecurity AI AppSec

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential cybersecurity client in Paris seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to join their AI-powered application security engineering team. This is a hybrid role based in Paris (75002), offering 2 days remote per week.

Our client operates at the intersection of security research and production engineering, building next-generation vulnerability detection systems. You'll work alongside security researchers to transform cutting-edge research into scalable, production-ready solutions that autonomously scan and secure applications at scale.

Responsibilities

• Design and build agentic scanning systems that autonomously explore applications, maintain context, and execute complex testing strategies
• Develop production-grade security detection engines for vulnerability identification including injection flaws, authentication issues, and business logic vulnerabilities
• Integrate LLMs and structured reasoning into scanning workflows to improve coverage and reduce false positives
• Work on distributed infrastructure that orchestrates thousands of concurrent scans using Kubernetes, queues, and resource management
• Ensure scanning systems are fast, deterministic, and cost-efficient despite high complexity and concurrency demands
• Contribute to core platform architecture decisions around memory systems, execution environments, and data models
• Collaborate with security researchers to translate complex research into reliable, scalable implementations

What We're Looking For

Required:

• 4+ years of experience in backend engineering, security research, or applied R&D in a product environment
• Strong software engineering fundamentals with ability to work across domains including systems, networking, and web architectures
• Proficiency in at least one backend language such as Python, Go, or similar
• Proven experience designing and shipping production systems with measurable impact
• Ability to translate complex ideas or research into reliable, scalable implementations
• Strong analytical mindset with focus on pragmatism and delivering results
• Comfortable collaborating across engineering and security teams to deliver end-to-end solutions

Nice to Have:

• Experience in application security including web security, penetration testing, or bug bounty programs
• Exposure to AI/LLM-based systems
• Familiarity with browser automation or large-scale distributed systems

Technical Environment: Python (primary), Go, Kubernetes (EKS), Playwright, PostgreSQL, S3-compatible storage, Redis, Kafka, OpenTelemetry, Grafana Cloud, GitLab CI, Terraform
