AI Engineer – Data

About This Role

We are representing a fast-growing consumer technology company in their search for their first dedicated AI Engineer within the data organization. This is a hands-on, build-and-ship role with unusually broad scope, sitting at the core of how intelligent systems power their product.

You'll be working directly with senior data scientists, the CTO, and leadership to build genuinely agentic AI systems that solve open-ended business problems—from reward optimization to user acquisition and beyond. This isn't about adding AI features; it's about reimagining core systems with AI-native thinking.

Location: Berlin (5 days per week in office; relocation support available)

Responsibilities

• Design and ship agentic AI systems that solve complex business problems across multiple verticals including reward design, user acquisition, and marketplace optimization
• Build the next generation of intelligent product systems, including AI-powered offer generation, evaluation pipelines, and decision-making agents
• Take vague "could AI help here?" problems, deeply understand the underlying business logic, and turn them into production-ready solutions
• Establish patterns, tooling, and standards for how AI engineering is done across the data organization
• Work end-to-end on AI problems: from initial concept through evaluation, deployment, and iteration against real data
• Make judgment calls about where AI belongs and where simpler solutions are more appropriate
• Collaborate closely with Staff Data Scientists and leadership to identify high-impact AI opportunities

What We're Looking For

• Required: Strong Python programming skills—this is non-negotiable
• Proven experience building and shipping real agentic AI systems—agents, LLM pipelines, or production RAG systems that were actually used
• Deep familiarity with modern AI tooling: LLM APIs and open models, agentic frameworks (LangChain, LangGraph, LlamaIndex), vector search, and evaluation-driven development
• Solid engineering or applied ML foundations—you understand what's happening under the hood
• Experience with BigQuery/SQL, cloud platforms (AWS/GCP), containers, and CI/CD
• Ownership mindset: you take projects from vague brief to shipped system without waiting to be asked
• Bias toward action: you ship small tests, iterate against real data, and move quickly
• High standards that show up in the systems you build, not just in what you say
• Impact focus: you know when not to use AI and can explain the simpler alternative you chose instead
• Bonus: Experience with adtech, marketplaces, recommendations/ranking, or high-scale consumer products
