About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential SaaS organization in search of a Head of Engineering to lead the technical evolution of a mature, high-traffic product serving hundreds of thousands of users internationally. This is a fully remote role based in Europe, reporting directly to the CEO.

Our client has recently completed a major platform relaunch and is now focused on adapting their product as AI reshapes user expectations and search behavior. You will guide both organizational and technical transformation, moving the engineering team toward greater autonomy, outcome-focused execution, and AI-native practices.

This is a small, senior team where you will have genuine scope to own strategic direction and make immediate impact at the leadership table.

Responsibilities

• AI-Native Engineering: Lead the adoption of AI-native engineering practices to substantially increase team efficiency and product capabilities
• Organizational Transformation: Guide the evolution from functional roles to outcome-oriented, end-to-end ownership. Bridge gaps between Product and Engineering to reduce dependencies and empower autonomous delivery
• Technical Vision: Own and co-create the technical vision and roadmap with Tech Leads, balancing technical debt reduction with feature delivery
• Platform Health: Ensure the data-heavy platform remains fast, reliable, secure, and GDPR-compliant as it scales
• People Development: Mentor an international engineering team to embrace full ownership and build confidence in autonomous decision-making
• Strategic Collaboration: Act as a high-level sparring partner to the CEO and Product leadership; navigate trade-offs between technical sustainability and delivery speed
• First 90-180 Days: Build trusting partnerships, enable distributed ownership, optimize delivery flow, identify AI leverage opportunities, and begin executing on a strategic transformation roadmap

What We're Looking For

• SaaS Leadership: Proven track record leading engineering teams in high-scale production environments with focus on efficient team structures and operational excellence
• Technical Credibility: High technical credibility across modern stacks—ideally PHP/Laravel, Vue.js, and cloud infrastructure—with particular strength in architecture and system design
• AI-First Approach: Forward-thinking perspective on AI as a core lever for both product features and engineering productivity
• Product-First Mindset: Strong product sense; you prioritize engineering efforts based on customer value and business impact rather than technical elegance alone
• Change Management: Skilled at building alignment during transitions and leading teams through change to achieve new velocity and rhythm
• Enabler Mentality: You measure success by what your team ships, not only what you personally build
• Domain Understanding: Understanding of web technologies (crawling, indexing, content analysis) is a strong advantage
• Communication: Fluent English is required; German is a strong advantage
• Location: Based in Europe, within ±2 hours of CET preferred

Pay

Compensation details will be discussed during the screening process and are location-adjusted to target local market medians for remote roles.
