Senior Software Engineer (Trust)

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential identity verification technology company seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join their Trust engineering team. This role focuses on building and operating backend services that validate identity data against authoritative sources worldwide — government registries, national databases, and sanctions screening systems.

You'll work on the technical infrastructure that transforms inconsistent, country-specific data sources into reliable trust signals that help organizations make safe onboarding decisions. Your contributions will directly impact global coverage, integration speed, and system reliability.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate backend services for integrations with external identity data sources, prioritizing reliability, scalability, and maintainability
• Expand global coverage by onboarding new countries and data sources, creating abstractions that reduce the cost of successive integrations
• Model inconsistent upstream data into well-defined verification results, including matching and validation logic
• Build resilient systems that handle unreliable third-party dependencies through timeouts, retries, idempotency, backpressure, circuit breaking, and graceful degradation
• Ensure compliance with regional data residency requirements and responsible handling of sensitive personal data
• Participate in on-call rotations, incident response, and postmortems for production-critical services
• Drive engineering quality through code reviews, CI practices, documentation, and mentoring

What We're Looking For

Required:

• 5+ years building large-scale backend applications with Python, including event-driven and async architectures with message queues (SQS, RabbitMQ, or similar)
• Hands-on experience integrating with third-party APIs at scale, including handling slow, flaky, or inconsistent external services
• Proven ownership of production-critical services with on-call experience
• Deep experience designing for resilience in distributed systems: idempotency, retries, backpressure, timeouts, backwards compatibility
• Strong data modeling skills to transform heterogeneous external data into clean domain models
• Solid understanding of modular design and SOLID principles
• Experience building scalable, maintainable APIs
• Proficiency in testing strategies, including testing against external dependencies
• Strong understanding of relational database fundamentals
• Familiarity with structured logging and observability practices
• Excellent communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences

Nice to Have:

• Experience with identity verification, KYC/AML, financial services, or government/registry integrations
• Background working under data privacy and regulatory constraints (GDPR, regional data residency)
• Experience with event-driven systems, workflow engines, or Kubernetes
