About This Opportunity

Our talent team is representing a confidential fintech organization seeking a Head of Engineering, Supply Chain for a remote position based in London. This senior engineering leadership role oversees the software systems that power large-scale device operations—inventory management, warehouse systems, logistics platforms, repair workflows, and operational tooling. This is a backend and distributed systems engineering challenge, not a hardware role.

You'll lead the technical strategy for supply chain and device platform systems, managing an engineering organization of approximately 25 engineers across multiple disciplines including managers, QA, SRE, and Data Engineering. This role is critical as the organization scales device operations globally across multiple markets.

Responsibilities

• Own technical strategy and architecture for inventory, logistics, and repair management software systems
• Lead an engineering organization of approximately 25 engineers, including engineering managers and specialists across QA, SRE, and Data Engineering
• Drive platformization of inventory and supply chain systems to ensure operational data visibility, trustworthiness, and consistency across millions of terminals
• Bridge operational practice and software systems by building operationally disciplined solutions
• Define architecture standards, engineering processes, and quality metrics across squads to ensure reliability and data integrity
• Collaborate with business and operational stakeholders to translate requirements into engineering solutions
• Hire, mentor, and develop engineering managers and senior engineers to support team growth to 30+ members
• Deliver scalable systems supporting device operations across multiple countries

What We're Looking For

• 10–15 years of overall software engineering experience, with at least 5 years leading engineering teams through growth phases
• 5+ years of hands-on, production-level experience writing and shipping Java code as a practicing engineer—years spent writing Java yourself, not overseeing teams who write it
• At least 5 years managing managers—leading an engineering organization through other engineering leaders, not running a single team
• Deep hands-on experience building supply chain, inventory, warehouse, or logistics software at scale
• Fintech or regulated-industry experience with understanding of operational stakes in device management for payments environments
• Strong backend engineering skills for data-intensive, distributed, operational systems
• Proven system design ability at large scale, managing hundreds of thousands of devices or more
• Experience managing and developing large engineering teams of 20+ members
• Excellent stakeholder management skills, translating complex technical concepts for non-technical leaders
• Product-minded approach to solving operational problems with engineering solutions
