Senior Software Engineer – Java, AWS

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential streaming-technology organization in Manchester, and our talent team is searching for a Senior Software Engineer with strong Java and AWS expertise to join their enterprise engineering function. In this role, you will design, develop, and deploy scalable web applications and microservices that power critical business workflows across supply chain, finance, sales operations, and HR systems.

Your day-to-day will include:

• Designing and building multi-tier, distributed web applications using modern software frameworks and cloud-native technologies
• Driving architecture discussions, taking ownership of new projects, and delivering high-quality solutions within tight timelines
• Partnering with security and compliance teams to ensure applications meet audit, security, and compliance requirements
• Developing and maintaining microservices using Java and Python-based frameworks
• Implementing Infrastructure as Code (IaC) workflows to support reliable and repeatable deployments
• Participating in Agile development processes, including scoping, technical design, estimation, coding, testing, debugging, code reviews, and maintenance
• Collaborating with cross-functional teams across the US, India, and Europe
• Contributing to the continual improvement of engineering tools, cloud-based technologies, and development processes

The team leverages AI-assisted development tooling. Engineers act as technical leads for AI agents—setting architecture, reviewing output, and ensuring quality. If you have experience using tools like Claude Code or Cursor to accelerate development, or you're excited to learn how AI can enhance your workflow, this is a great fit.

What we're looking for

• 5+ years of experience delivering multi-tier, highly scalable, distributed web applications
• Deep understanding of software architecture, object-oriented design principles, and data structures
• Strong experience with test-driven development and test automation
• Extensive experience developing microservices
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) workflows
• Demonstrated ability to be proactive, self-driven, and make practical trade-offs based on business needs
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience
• Experience developing finance applications is a plus
• Working experience with Terraform is a plus
• Experience creating workflows for Apache Airflow is a plus

Location: Manchester. The team works in the office Monday through Thursday, with Fridays generally flexible for remote work.
