About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential insurance technology client seeking a Staff Data Engineer to lead financial data operations. This is a remote position available across the United States.

Our client is building next-generation data infrastructure to power critical financial systems including commissions, payments, and incentive programs. As a Staff Data Engineer, you'll serve as a technical leader driving architectural decisions and delivering solutions with multi-quarter impact. You'll work at the intersection of Finance, Product, and Engineering to shape strategy and build scalable data pipelines that support high-stakes financial workflows.

The platform includes end-to-end data collection tools, scoring pipelines, and analytics interfaces used by analysts, data scientists, and finance teams. Your mission will be to dramatically expand capabilities through platform-level tooling that accelerates data source onboarding, partner integrations, experimentation cycles, and analytics infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with Finance, Product, Data Science, Analytics, and domain experts to define quarterly strategy and technical roadmap
  • Identify and champion critical technical initiatives that increase effectiveness across products, systems, and teams
  • Coach and guide engineers in planning experiments and projects aligned with strategic objectives
  • Contribute code each development cycle to advance team impact and lead by example
  • Lead incident response efforts and drive continuous improvement of system resiliency
  • Collaborate with Staff Engineers across the organization to establish and evangelize standards and best practices
  • Make architectural decisions for financial data systems handling commissions, payments, and incentives
  • Build scalable data infrastructure enabling rapid decision loops for analytics and data science teams

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of data engineering or software engineering experience with extensive data engineering expertise
  • Proficiency in Python and SQL
  • Strong experience with Redshift, Spark, Apache Iceberg, and Terraform
  • Expertise in Airflow and dbt for orchestration and transformation
  • Deep knowledge of cloud architecture (AWS strongly preferred)
  • Proven track record leading projects involving multiple teams across functional domains
  • Excellent communication skills with both engineering colleagues and senior business leaders

Bonus Qualifications:

  • Experience building large-scale finance, payments, and commissions systems
