Senior Machine Learning Engineer – Conversational AI

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential technology client in their search for a Senior Machine Learning Engineer to join their customer care and automation team in London. This is a hybrid role based at their London headquarters, typically requiring 3 days per week in the office.

Our client operates a complex, high-volume platform where machine learning directly impacts customer experience, trust, and operational efficiency. You'll be joining a team focused on building and scaling AI-powered decision systems, with particular emphasis on conversational AI and customer support automation.

Responsibilities

• Own the complete machine learning lifecycle from design through productionisation for models used in customer support and decision-making systems
• Architect and implement robust monitoring, evaluation, and alerting frameworks to detect model drift and performance issues in real-time production environments
• Lead the development of LLM-powered automation solutions and agentic AI projects
• Collaborate with product managers to transform ambiguous customer problems into scalable ML solutions
• Build and maintain high-performance, production-grade systems using modern infrastructure tools including Docker, Kubernetes, and CircleCI
• Provide technical leadership and set standards for ML quality, reliability, and maintainability across the organisation
• Partner with data scientists and engineers globally to embed models into scalable production systems
• Mentor peers and contribute to technical excellence across the team

What We're Looking For

Essential Requirements:

• Significant experience as an ML Engineer or Data Scientist with proven ability to write high-quality production code in Python
• Demonstrated ownership of productionising Generative AI or Agentic AI projects
• Deep understanding of LLMs, transformers, and fine-tuning techniques
• Proven experience deploying and managing models using Docker, Kubernetes, and CircleCI
• Strong foundational knowledge of traditional ML and evaluation techniques
• Track record of delivering measurable business impact through ML solutions at scale
• Collaborative mindset with experience mentoring others

Nice to Have:

• Experience with evaluation frameworks specifically designed for Generative AI
• Familiarity with observability, monitoring, and safety techniques for deployed GenAI systems
• Experience with strongly typed languages such as Go
