ML Engineer

About This Opportunity

Our talent team is representing a confidential AI technology organization seeking experienced Machine Learning Engineers for a specialized contract engagement. This is a flexible, remote opportunity designed for practitioners who understand production ML systems at a systems level—not just high-level APIs.

Candidates will work on challenging model development, training pipelines, inference optimization, and numerical computing tasks. The work requires implementing, debugging, and validating machine-learning systems to meet objective correctness and performance requirements.

Responsibilities

• Develop and validate machine-learning models, training pipelines, and inference systems
• Implement model components, data pipelines, evaluation frameworks, and numerical methods
• Build reproducible programmatic workflows using Python and command-line tooling
• Work with tensor operations, automatic differentiation, model architectures, tokenization, batching, and generation strategies
• Optimize training and inference for latency, throughput, memory usage, and hardware utilization
• Diagnose numerical instability, tensor behavior issues, memory bottlenecks, distributed-system failures, and performance regressions
• Compare model implementations and validate correctness and reproducibility
• Review AI-generated code and technical solutions for correctness, efficiency, and engineering quality
• Design objective tests, benchmarks, and verification criteria
• Document technical decisions, trade-offs, and system limitations clearly

What We're Looking For

• Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, or a closely related quantitative discipline
• Strong professional or research experience in machine learning engineering
• Practical proficiency with Python
• Meaningful hands-on experience with at least two relevant ML frameworks, libraries, or inference tools (examples: PyTorch, JAX, NumPy, SciPy, SGLang, vLLM, llama.cpp, Hugging Face Transformers, Hugging Face Tokenizers, or equivalent)
• Strong understanding of model training, evaluation, numerical computation, or inference systems
• Ability to debug ML systems beyond surface-level API usage and explain implementation decisions, performance trade-offs, and failure modes clearly
• Experience building reproducible technical workflows
• Background at an established technology company, AI laboratory, research organization, or other recognized engineering environment strongly preferred; exceptional open-source or academic experience may also qualify

Engagement Details

Location: Global, fully remote

Employment Type: Contract (~15 hours per week)

Schedule: Flexible—you choose the hours and days you work, including weekends if desired

Start Timeline: The client typically fills roles within 48 hours and expects experts to begin their first task within 24–48 hours of completing onboarding

Pay

Pay via Get A Job.ai: $100–$150/hour

Compensation is output-based. Experts are paid per task that meets project specifications. The time required to complete each task may vary depending on experience and workflow. Minimum submission requirements apply.
