About This Opportunity
We are representing a confidential management consulting organization seeking talented students for an 8-week paid summer internship in their Government & Public Sector practice. This London-based opportunity runs from 5th July through 27th August 2027 and offers genuine project exposure alongside structured learning and professional development.
Our client partners with government departments, agencies and public services to solve complex challenges and deliver improved outcomes for citizens. Their work spans central government, home affairs, health and public infrastructure—from service redesign and operational strengthening to leveraging data, technology and AI for better decision-making and delivery.
Responsibilities
You will be embedded in a live client project throughout the internship period, working alongside experienced consultants to deliver real outcomes. Support and coaching will be provided as you build your capabilities through meaningful work. Depending on your project assignment, you may:
- Analyse quantitative and qualitative information to identify insights, trends and opportunities for improvement
- Explore how data, digital technology, automation or AI could enhance public services
- Develop recommendations and delivery plans, considering how people, technology and data work together
- Support the development of client materials, including presentations, reports, workshop outputs and project updates
- Contribute to meetings and workshop discussions, helping to capture key points, actions and decisions
- Learn how consulting teams structure ambiguous challenges and communicate clearly with clients and colleagues
Project examples include transformation initiatives that improve government services; service and process reviews to identify simplification opportunities; digital, data and analytics work including AI applications; business case and funding proposal development; operating model and service blueprint design; and commercial and procurement support activities.
What We're Looking For
Our client welcomes applications from students across all academic disciplines—STEM and non-STEM alike. Previous consulting or public sector experience is not required. What matters most is your curiosity, willingness to learn and interest in helping solve complex public sector challenges.
You should be in your penultimate year of bachelor's or master's degree studies and possess the permanent right to work in the UK now and in the future. Eligibility for UK Security Check (SC) clearance is required, and proof will be requested if you progress to assessment centre. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
Strong candidates typically demonstrate:
- Structured problem solving—the ability to break down unfamiliar questions and identify what matters
- Data analysis skills and comfort working with data to surface insights and support evidence-based recommendations
- Digital and AI literacy with genuine curiosity about practical AI application and foundational understanding of responsible, ethical use
- Interest in policy, government and public service and how national priorities translate into delivery
- Commercial and financial curiosity about how money, value and delivery decisions shape public services
- Clear communication skills including the ability to explain ideas simply and structure thinking in writing and conversation
- A collaborative approach with enthusiasm for working in teams and learning from others
- Willingness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced project environment where priorities evolve
- Attention to detail and ownership, taking pride in work quality and following through on tasks
- A proactive attitude with confidence to ask questions, contribute ideas and get involved
