What This Role Involves

You'll design and develop full-stack applications using Java and Angular, collaborating with cross-functional teams to build systems that serve WGU's diverse student population. This position combines technical leadership with hands-on development, influencing both engineering decisions and long-term architecture as you help drive the future of competency-based education through robust, user-centered software.

Core Duties

• Build and maintain full-stack features using Java backend services and Angular frontends, ensuring performance, security, and scalability
• Lead code reviews, mentor junior developers, and establish best practices across the engineering team
• Collaborate with product, design, and operations teams to translate requirements into robust technical solutions
• Design database schemas and API architectures that support rapid feature deployment and future growth
• Troubleshoot production issues, optimize application performance, and implement monitoring and observability improvements
• Participate in system design discussions and contribute to technical roadmap planning

What You Bring

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, with demonstrated expertise in Java and Angular
• Strong understanding of full-stack development, RESTful APIs, and modern web application architecture
• Experience with databases, version control systems, and CI/CD practices
• Proven ability to mentor other engineers and contribute to team growth
• Problem-solving mindset with excellent communication skills and attention to detail
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field (or equivalent professional experience)
