Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential medical technology organization based in Hamburg that is seeking an experienced General Ledger Accountant (m/f/d) to join their finance team. In this role, you will work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure reliable financial reporting and smooth accounting operations.

Your core responsibilities include:

• Tax compliance: Prepare VAT advance returns, summary reports, and other statutory tax filings. Coordinate tax matters with external advisors, compile relevant documentation, and support tax matters across group entities.
• Financial close ownership: Actively participate in monthly, quarterly, and annual closings according to HGB (German GAAP). Prepare balance sheets, profit and loss statements, notes to accounts, provisions schedules, and perform required closing entries with accuracy and timeliness.
• Audit coordination: Serve as primary contact for auditors, tax advisors, and regulatory authorities. Coordinate general ledger inquiries, provide documentation, and professionally manage the annual audit process.

You will report to the Head of General Ledger Accounting and join a small, collaborative core team of two full-time professionals supported by a working student. The team values reliability, open communication, and pragmatic problem-solving—especially during intensive audit and closing periods.

What We're Looking For

Professional qualifications:

• Completed commercial training, such as tax specialist qualification or comparable education
• Ideally, further qualification as certified accountant (Bilanzbuchhalter/in) or equivalent experience gained through professional practice
• Several years of professional experience in general ledger accounting, financial accounting, or tax
• Proven experience preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements under HGB; IFRS knowledge is a plus
• Comfortable working with auditors, tax advisors, and external stakeholders
• Strong proficiency with ERP systems and Office 365 applications
• Excellent German and good English language skills, both written and spoken
