Lead Product Engineer (Developer Platform)

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential European CDN and edge computing provider in their search for a Lead Product Engineer to own and evolve their Developer Platform. This is a rare opportunity to design how developers deploy workloads to the edge—starting from a blank page.

Our client already provides the building blocks: container orchestration, edge scripting, and database services. What's missing is the unified developer experience that turns these pieces into one coherent platform. You'll define projects, environments, secrets, logging, and the connections that make deploying a workload feel natural and obvious.

This role sits within Engineering, not under a traditional Product organization. You'll carry product responsibilities yourself—combining discovery, prioritization, and delivery—while leading a small engineering team and contributing code across the stack.

Responsibilities

• Design core developer primitives (projects, environments, secrets, logs) that unify the experience across container, scripting, and database products
• Own product direction end-to-end: discovery, delivery, iteration, and adoption measurement
• Lead a small engineering team—set direction, develop people, give clear feedback, and maintain a high quality bar
• Build alongside your engineers: prototypes, APIs, dashboards, instrumentation, documentation, and production systems
• Resolve cross-product decisions that impact developer experience before they ship
• Define success metrics (deployment funnels, retention, expansion) and use data to inform priorities
• Collaborate across compute, frontend, design, and marketing teams to deliver cohesive experiences across dashboard, API, CLI, and documentation
• Bring clarity to ambiguous problems and elevate product thinking across teams beyond your own

What We're Looking For

Must-Have:

• Experience owning the full product cycle (discovery → delivery → iteration) at meaningful scale, or readiness to step into that level of ownership
• Strong product judgment—turning messy problems into meaningful outcomes
• Comfort with data: funnels, retention, experimentation, and knowing what to measure
• Business and market literacy: ICP, pricing, competition, revenue drivers
• Deep technical skills to challenge solutions, make trade-offs, and ship production code
• High standards for quality, reliability, performance, security, and trust
• Track record of helping others make better decisions and take ownership
• Clear communication, high ownership, low ego
• AI fluency: using AI thoughtfully across research, prototyping, coding, and testing while maintaining accountability for quality
• Location: Europe, ideally within CET ±3 hours for natural team collaboration

Nice-to-Have:

• Experience building developer platforms, deployment tools, or developer-experience-first products
• Hands-on experience deploying and debugging workloads on similar platforms
• Comfort talking to customers as well as diving into technology
• Systems thinking—seeing how products, systems, and teams fit together
• Engineering leadership experience: developing people, giving feedback, enabling teams to own decisions
