We are representing a confidential market research and analytics firm seeking a Data Classification Associate to join their Corporate Retail & Brands team. This remote-friendly role supports major retail and consumer brand organizations by transforming massive volumes of consumer data into accurate, reliable insights.

This role can be performed remotely anywhere in the United States, with an expectation of East Coast work hours. The company has office hubs in NYC, Austin, Miami, Denver, Mountain View, and Seattle.

Responsibilities

As a Data Classification Associate, you will:

• Own category hierarchies end-to-end, becoming the primary owner of high-impact product taxonomies with a focus on accuracy and client value
• Build and refine product taxonomies across retail categories, covering large-scale datasets of millions of SKUs
• Develop deep domain expertise in key products, franchises, and brands to build rules and methodologies rooted in category knowledge
• Drive AI-enabled classification by transforming existing mapping solutions into scalable approaches that improve speed and consistency
• Design and run comprehensive QA processes to catch error patterns that automated systems and manual review miss
• Independently diagnose and resolve complex data quality issues, including definitional and methodological challenges
• Serve as a client-facing expert on category data, understanding client needs and aligning them with category definitions and methodological limitations
• Collaborate cross-functionally with Insights, Data Validation, and Engineering teams to develop technical solutions and optimize data processes
• Mentor peers and raise quality standards by identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and creating robust processes

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications:

• 3-5 years of experience in data analytics, data operations, category mapping, or consulting
• 2+ years of hands-on experience working with SQL, Python, PySpark, or other programming languages to explore and transform large, complex datasets
• Familiarity with GitHub and Databricks
• Proven track record of quickly learning new concepts, particularly complex category definitions and client needs
• Strong ability to clearly communicate complex concepts, both orally and in writing
• Ownership mentality with enthusiasm for making a big impact at a rapidly growing organization
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, independently prioritize tasks, and make strategic decisions based on client needs
• Interest in mentoring peers and raising quality standards through shared best practices

Preferred:

• Experience supporting market intelligence or data analytics with brand manufacturers and/or retailers, with understanding of their business needs

Pay

The annual on-target earnings for this position is anticipated to be up to $130,000. Please note that if remote work is performed outside of the company's office locations, income may be subject to New York State tax withholding.
