About This Opportunity
We are representing a confidential SaaS organization in Germany that operates data platforms serving high-volume consumer applications. This is a remote role based in Germany where you'll build and own cloud-native data infrastructure that powers both analytics and AI systems at scale.
Our client is building an AI-first data engineering function. You'll use modern LLMs and internal tooling as standard parts of your workflow, while maintaining the rigor and validation discipline that production data systems demand. This role suits either an experienced data engineer ready to take full platform ownership or a strong mid-level engineer eager to step up.
Responsibilities
- Build and optimize cloud-native data pipelines on AWS using tools like Aurora, Redshift, dbt, Spark/EMR, Airflow, and CDC technologies
- Design and evolve dimensional data models that support analytics, operational systems, and ML/AI workloads across a large user base
- Implement data reliability standards including governance, testing, and lineage so teams and automated systems can trust the data by default
- Partner with product and engineering stakeholders to translate ambiguous business requirements into robust, scalable data solutions
- Evaluate emerging technologies and patterns such as data mesh and AI tooling, contributing to architecture decisions
- Support financial and regulatory reporting workstreams where accuracy and auditability are critical
What We're Looking For
Required:
- 3+ years of data engineering experience with a focus on data warehousing and the readiness to take on greater ownership
- Strong SQL and Python skills for data transformation and pipeline development
- Comfort working with AI tools while maintaining critical judgment to validate outputs—especially where correctness is non-negotiable
- Solid understanding of data architecture and modeling principles including dimensional modeling, slowly-changing dimensions, and incremental load patterns
- Hands-on production experience with dbt on cloud data warehouses
- Working knowledge of relational databases and exposure to non-relational stores such as DynamoDB or MongoDB
- Proven ability to debug complex data issues and deliver durable solutions
- Excellent written and verbal English
Nice to Have:
- AWS experience (Redshift, EMR, Glue, S3, IAM) or equivalent cloud platform knowledge (GCP, Azure)
- Familiarity with streaming or change-data-capture technologies like Kafka, Kinesis, or Debezium
- Experience building data pipelines that serve ML or AI systems
- Background working with financial, payments, or regulated reporting data
- German language skills
