Assistant Chief Engineer – Critical Environments

JLL is seeking an Assistant Chief Engineer – Critical Environments to join our Alexandria, VA team in a full-time engineering leadership role. You'll oversee the technical operations and strategic engineering initiatives that keep mission-critical facilities running with precision and reliability.

What This Role Involves

As Assistant Chief Engineer for Critical Environments at JLL, you'll serve as a senior technical leader responsible for the engineering excellence of high-reliability facilities. This position bridges operational execution and strategic planning, ensuring that systems supporting data centers, medical facilities, government installations, or other critical infrastructure meet the stringent performance, safety, and uptime standards their organizations demand. You'll combine hands-on technical expertise with leadership capability, guiding your team and collaborating across JLL's service delivery network to solve complex engineering challenges.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

• Direct the technical operations and preventive maintenance programs for critical facility systems
• Lead, mentor, and supervise engineering staff, fostering technical development and accountability
• Conduct inspections, audits, and performance assessments to identify risks and optimization opportunities
• Manage emergency response protocols and coordinate troubleshooting for critical system failures
• Develop and implement engineering standards, procedures, and safety protocols aligned with regulatory requirements
• Collaborate with facilities management, clients, and cross-functional teams to prioritize capital projects and system upgrades
• Monitor system performance metrics, budgets, and resource allocation to drive operational efficiency
• Stay current with industry best practices and emerging technologies in critical environment engineering

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline
• Minimum 7+ years of experience in facilities engineering, with at least 3 years managing critical environments
• Demonstrated leadership capability and experience supervising technical teams
• Strong knowledge of HVAC, electrical systems, power distribution, and facility infrastructure
• Professional Engineer (PE) license or commitment to obtain one preferred
• Proficiency with computerized maintenance management systems and engineering software
• Excellent problem-solving, communication, and project management skills
• Ability to work on-site in Alexandria, VA and travel as needed
