IT Systems & Database Administrator

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential fintech organization seeking an IT Systems & Database Administrator for a contract role based in the Philippines. Our client specializes in enterprise financial software and operates across multiple international markets with distributed teams.

This is a remote contract position requiring strong systems administration skills with a heavy database focus. You'll support day-to-day operations for the Australia-based team while collaborating with engineers in North America. Unlike traditional systems roles, this position demands hands-on Microsoft SQL Server expertise alongside infrastructure management.

Responsibilities

Systems & Infrastructure Administration

• Install, configure, and maintain Windows and Linux servers and associated infrastructure
• Monitor system performance, capacity, and availability to prevent service interruptions
• Apply security patches, updates, and firmware upgrades following change management procedures
• Configure server roles, permissions, scheduled tasks, and related components
• Review system logs, monitoring alerts, and security scan results to identify risks

Database Administration

• Administer Microsoft SQL Server environments across corporate and client-hosted infrastructure
• Execute SQL scripts, backups, restores, and data maintenance procedures
• Troubleshoot database errors and performance issues
• Support database migrations, upgrades, replication, and environment refreshes
• Analyze queries and indexing to recommend performance improvements
• Maintain database integrity, security, and access controls

Networking & Firewall Administration

• Configure and troubleshoot firewall policies and rules
• Review firewall logs and network traffic for security investigations
• Implement network changes following established security procedures
• Support DNS, DHCP, VPN connectivity, and routing configuration
• Troubleshoot connectivity between corporate, cloud, and client environments

End-User Support

• Provide technical support to distributed team members
• Troubleshoot workstation, application, and connectivity issues
• Manage user accounts, permissions, and security groups
• Coordinate with engineering teams for escalations
• Communicate technical issues and planned maintenance to stakeholders

Security & Compliance

• Perform user access reviews and security hardening activities
• Support vulnerability management and remediation
• Assist with security audits by documenting controls and configurations
• Work within live client environments maintaining strict operational discipline
• Maintain accurate documentation of infrastructure and configuration changes

What We're Looking For

• 3+ years of experience in systems administration, infrastructure administration, or database administration
• Practical Microsoft SQL Server experience including backups, scripting, troubleshooting, performance tuning, maintenance, and migrations
• Strong Windows Server administration experience
• Hands-on experience with firewall administration and troubleshooting
• Strong understanding of TCP/IP networking, DNS, DHCP, VPN, and routing
• Experience with Active Directory, security groups, permissions, and Group Policy
• Experience with virtualization or cloud infrastructure environments (asset)
• Strong troubleshooting skills across multiple technology layers
• Understanding of IT security principles, system hardening, and access control
• Experience with backup, recovery, and disaster recovery processes
• Excellent communication and documentation skills
• Ability to manage multiple priorities independently within distributed teams

Pay

Pay via Get A Job.ai: $14 - $25 CAD per hour. Placement within this range will be determined based on experience and skills evaluated during the interview process.
