About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential sports technology client in their search for a Software Engineer - Data. This is a unique opportunity to join a growing platform at a critical inflection point, where your work will directly enable business scaling and growth.

Our client operates in the amateur sports sector and is building technical infrastructure to support their expansion across multiple markets. This role sits at the intersection of data engineering, backend development, and business enablement.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain automated data pipelines structured for rapid addition of new sources and markets
  • Develop algorithms to extract relevant information from websites and images
  • Ensure data quality through validation, confidence levels, monitoring, and clean handovers to internal teams and partners
  • Manage and evolve the data infrastructure for a key business vertical
  • Serve as technical point of contact for cross-functional business teams
  • Develop internal tools enabling non-technical teams to collect and correct data independently
  • Create analytics and reports for internal stakeholders and external partners

What We're Looking For

Required Experience & Skills:

  • 6-8 years of experience in software engineering and data engineering
  • Broad technical skillset spanning data pipelines, backend, and frontend work
  • Proven experience with automated data pipelines, web scraping, and image processing
  • Strong expertise in databases and data modelling
  • Ability to work independently in ambiguous environments with business-focused stakeholders
  • Fast learner who can quickly understand unfamiliar domains
  • Strong judgment on when to prioritize speed versus precision in data quality
  • Data-driven thinking - ability to identify patterns, derive meaning, and recommend next steps proactively
  • Clean coding practices including testing and code reviews
  • Fluent English; German is a strong plus

Technical Stack: Python, PostgreSQL, RabbitMQ, Grafana, Metabase, Pulumi, Kubernetes, AWS, LLM APIs

Bonus Qualifications:

  • Experience with AWS, Kubernetes, or Infrastructure as Code (Pulumi/Terraform)
  • Experience presenting data to non-technical audiences
  • Personal connection to amateur sports

Role Context: This position involves working closely with business teams rather than within a large engineering organization. You'll have significant autonomy to set priorities and build infrastructure from the ground up. The focus is on turning messy, real-world data sources into reliable, scalable systems rather than greenfield ML projects. Our client operates with an AI-first approach.
