About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential fintech organization based in London that is transforming how small businesses access funding through data-driven technology. This is a hybrid role requiring three days per week in their London office.

As a Data Scientist, you will play a central role in developing the next generation of statistical and machine learning models for commercial lending products. You will work alongside data engineers, analysts, and business stakeholders to build cutting-edge solutions that drive real commercial impact.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement statistical and machine learning models for commercial lending products from concept through to production deployment
• Optimize existing models and drive innovation by exploring alternative data sources and modeling frameworks
• Monitor model performance and proactively identify opportunities for improvement
• Communicate complex analytical findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, translating insights into actionable business recommendations
• Proactively identify and mitigate risks, issues, or control weaknesses in model development and deployment
• Experiment with various frameworks and techniques to continuously improve model accuracy and efficiency
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate technical outputs into measurable business value

What We're Looking For

Essential Requirements:

• Degree in a quantitative STEM discipline with demonstrated ability to transition theoretical concepts into real-world solutions
• Proven track record using rigorous quantitative frameworks and structured problem-solving to address complex business challenges
• End-to-end hands-on experience in statistical modeling, machine learning architecture, and deployment through production-level enterprise work, high-impact research, or advanced projects
• Strong proficiency in Python for data manipulation, statistical analysis, and modeling, with focus on clean, efficient, and reproducible code
• Deep operational familiarity with SQL, including optimized query writing, complex multi-table joins, and data transformation
• Track record of collaborating with cross-functional partners to translate technical outputs into commercial insights and product improvements
• Ability to take ownership of workflows and use AI to automate complex tasks and drive operational efficiency
• Experience identifying high-impact AI use cases and implementing advanced techniques to solve multi-layered business challenges

Desirable Skills:

• Prior experience in credit risk modeling or data science within financial services
