About This Opportunity
We are representing a confidential professional services organization seeking a Design Director to lead their in-house creative studio in London. This is a strategic leadership role where you'll serve as brand guardian and creative partner to senior stakeholders, setting the creative vision while developing a talented team. You'll work across all visual communications—print, digital, social, and events—ensuring consistency and quality at every touchpoint.
This hybrid position is based in London with occasional travel to Birmingham, offering genuine scope to shape creative direction at the executive level.
Responsibilities
- Lead all visual communications as brand guardian across print, digital, social, and events, ensuring consistency and strategic alignment
- Set creative vision and direction for the studio, translating complex briefs from senior stakeholders into compelling design solutions
- Build, mentor, and develop the in-house creative team through clear direction, constructive feedback, and ongoing coaching
- Serve as primary creative partner to senior stakeholders, including marketing leadership, presenting creative strategy and executions with confidence at executive level
- Oversee production of high-quality communications tailored for professional services audiences—from thought leadership campaigns to events and digital content
- Champion and evolve the brand system, keeping it contemporary and distinctive within a regulated sector environment
- Manage multiple concurrent projects, balancing hands-on creative contribution with leadership responsibilities
- Oversee studio-level production budgets, including cost estimation, supplier relationships, and spend reporting
- Drive responsible integration of AI tools across studio workflows, setting quality standards that preserve craft excellence while improving efficiency
What We're Looking For
- Strong portfolio of sophisticated brand and campaign work, particularly in B2B, corporate, or professional services environments
- Expert-level understanding of brand systems and how to maintain them within complex, regulated contexts
- Track record of leading and developing creative teams with a coaching approach that elevates talent at all levels
- Experience presenting creative work to executive-level audiences with the presence and communication skills to advocate effectively for ideas
- Deep craft knowledge across print and digital—typography, layout, art direction, and visual storytelling—with ability to contribute hands-on when needed
- Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and familiarity with Figma and contemporary design tools
- Experience managing studio-level or project-level production budgets and supplier relationships
- Experience integrating AI tools strategically, with ability to set quality standards and governance while maintaining human oversight
- Clear understanding of where AI enhances creative output and where human craft remains essential
- Agentic approach to complex creative challenges: systematic, adaptive, and outcomes-focused
