About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential benefits technology client in London who is hiring a Software Engineer (Data). This role sits at the intersection of data infrastructure and AI-driven automation, serving global enterprise customers with strict security and reliability requirements.

You'll build and maintain the pipelines, orchestration, and infrastructure that move data across the organization—ingesting data from products, customer systems, and third-party tools, then delivering it back out reliably. This is critical plumbing that the entire business and its customers depend on daily.

Responsibilities

  • Own and maintain data ingestion pipelines bringing data into the warehouse, using Fivetran for managed sources and building custom pipelines where needed
  • Manage orchestration to keep data moving on schedule and ensure clean recovery when issues arise
  • Build and scale data infrastructure as code with Terraform, primarily using AWS services
  • Develop enterprise-grade pipelines and connectors for customer systems, including HR and payroll integrations, handling data securely at scale
  • Connect data layers to AI agents and services, including through MCP connectors, ensuring agents receive appropriate context
  • Collaborate with product and stakeholders to scope problems and design simple, scalable solutions
  • Build to enterprise security standards including OWASP Top 10 and AWS Well-Architected Framework

What We're Looking For

  • Strong hands-on experience with Python and SQL
  • Several years building and running production data pipelines that others relied on
  • Comfortable with infrastructure as code, ideally Terraform, and practical AWS experience (Lambda, ECS, Glue, S3, RDS)
  • Solid understanding of ETL/ELT and orchestration patterns
  • Strong software engineering fundamentals: clean code, sensible design, reliable testing
  • Security-minded approach to application and infrastructure development, with understanding of enterprise customer expectations
  • Experience building or running data integrations and connectors, especially customer-facing ones, is a significant plus

Bonus skills (not required):

  • Experience with customer-facing data integrations such as HRIS or payroll feeds via SFTP and EDI formats
  • Exposure to MCP server development or preparing data for AI agents (ontology modelling, knowledge graphs, semantic layers)

Technical environment: Python 3, Django, PostgreSQL, React on AWS. Data stack includes Fivetran, AWS DMS, dbt, PostgreSQL on RDS, n8n, AWS Lambda, and Terraform for infrastructure.
