Design Engineer

Join Remilia as a Design Engineer based in Orange County, and lead the end-to-end visual and interactive direction of our unconventional social platform and culture-driven products. We're an art studio and lifestyle brand that connects emerging artists and underground culture communities globally—and we need someone who can shape how our digital experiences come to life, bridging design vision with functional prototypes.

Role Overview

As Design Engineer, you'll own both the UX/UI strategy and the technical prototyping that brings those concepts to production. Your work spans design system architecture in Figma to interactive proof-of-concepts built in code—creating the bridge between conceptual vision and what engineering can implement. You'll set the visual standard across all our digital products, experimenting with novel interface paradigms that push beyond conventional social app design.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

• Design and prototype new features and product experiences from concept through handoff to the engineering team
• Build interactive, functional prototypes in React, HTML, and CSS that communicate design intent beyond static mockups
• Create and maintain a scalable design system and component library that guides visual consistency
• Collaborate closely with engineers to refine specification details and ensure implementation fidelity
• Explore experimental interface directions and novel interaction patterns for social and community-focused applications
• Establish and uphold visual quality standards across all shipped products

Qualifications

Required:

• 4+ years of professional experience combining UX/UI design practice with frontend development and interactive prototyping
• Demonstrated visual sensibility and strong design taste reflected in your work
• Advanced proficiency in Figma, including systems thinking, interaction design, and animation capabilities
• Solid competency in React, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS for building functional prototypes and proof-of-concepts
• Portfolio evidence of cultural, consumer, or socially-focused product design
• Portfolio examples demonstrating both finished design work and working prototypes you've engineered

Nice to have:

• Experience with motion design tools such as Framer Motion, GSAP, or After Effects
• Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools like Cursor or Claude Code
• Background designing native mobile experiences for iOS and Android
• Experience in graphic design, art direction, or brand identity work
