Stride, Inc. is hiring a full-time STAGES Sign Language Interpreter–Contractor to serve Deaf and hard of hearing students across Indianapolis, Marion County. In this role, you'll provide language access through ASL interpretation and transliteration services, enabling students to fully participate in academic instruction and school community activities.

Role Overview

As a sign language interpreter working with Stride, Inc.'s STAGES program, you will facilitate communication and learning for D/HH students in an educational environment. Your work directly impacts students' access to instruction, peer interaction, and engagement in all aspects of school life. You'll interpret complex academic content across multiple grade levels and subject areas, adjusting your technique based on individual student needs and communication preferences.

Key Responsibilities

  • Interpret and transliterate classroom instruction, lectures, and academic discussions for Deaf and hard of hearing students
  • Support student communication with teachers, peers, and staff during academic and social activities
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers and special education teams to ensure students receive equitable access to curriculum
  • Interpret during school meetings, assemblies, field trips, and extracurricular events as scheduled
  • Maintain professional ethics and student confidentiality in all settings
  • Provide feedback to educators about student comprehension and communication needs

What You Bring

  • Current certification from a recognized interpreter credentialing organization (RID, NAOIP, or equivalent state certification)
  • Proven experience interpreting in K-12 or higher education settings
  • Fluency in American Sign Language and strong English language skills
  • Understanding of deaf culture and the needs of D/HH learners
  • Excellent reliability, punctuality, and professional communication
  • Ability to work effectively as part of an interdisciplinary education team
