Fire Safety – Life Safety Systems Engineer

Jacobs is hiring a Fire Safety & Life Safety Systems Engineer to join our team based in Cammack Village, Pulaski County. This full-time position offers the opportunity to design, engineer, and oversee integrated life safety solutions that protect buildings, infrastructure, and occupants across diverse project types.

Position Summary

As a Fire Safety & Life Safety Systems Engineer at Jacobs, you will lead the development of comprehensive safety system designs for commercial, industrial, and institutional facilities. From preliminary concept through installation and validation, you'll manage the complete engineering lifecycle for fire detection, suppression, emergency egress, and alarm systems. Working collaboratively with architects, contractors, building officials, and clients, you'll ensure all designs meet applicable codes, standards, and client requirements. This role combines deep technical expertise with project coordination and client engagement across multiple disciplines.

Responsibilities

• Design and engineer integrated life safety systems including fire detection, alarm, suppression, and emergency communication infrastructure
• Develop detailed specifications, system drawings, and construction documents in compliance with applicable fire codes and building standards
• Perform fire protection calculations, code compliance reviews, and risk assessments for new and existing buildings
• Coordinate system design with architectural teams, building contractors, and regulatory agencies throughout all project phases
• Conduct system testing, commissioning, and validation to verify proper operation and code compliance
• Review submitted equipment submittals and installation drawings for adherence to design specifications and code requirements
• Provide engineering recommendations for system upgrades, retrofits, and modernization of existing life safety infrastructure

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Fire Protection Engineering, Civil Engineering, or closely related engineering discipline
• Minimum 3 years of professional experience in fire protection design, life safety engineering, or related specialty
• Solid understanding of NFPA codes, International Building Code (IBC), and applicable local building regulations
• Proficiency with fire protection design software, CAD platforms, and standard engineering tools
• Professional Engineer (PE) license in fire protection engineering or related discipline, or eligibility to obtain within 12 months
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills with demonstrated ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams
