Director – Portfolio Risk Management & Analytics

Travelers Insurance Company is seeking a full-time Director of Portfolio Risk Management & Analytics in Bismarck, Burleigh County. In this leadership position, you will guide the development and execution of enterprise-wide portfolio risk strategies, advanced analytics frameworks, and risk assessment initiatives across our property and casualty insurance operations.

Position Summary

As Director of Portfolio Risk Management & Analytics, you'll own the strategic vision for measuring, monitoring, and managing portfolio risk exposure across the organization. This senior leadership role combines hands-on analytical expertise with people leadership, requiring you to partner with underwriting, claims, finance, and executive teams to ensure our portfolio remains competitive, compliant, and capable of delivering strong returns in evolving market conditions. You'll be responsible for building the analytical infrastructure, models, and governance frameworks that enable data-driven decision-making at the highest levels of the company.

Your Responsibilities

• Design and maintain enterprise-level risk models and analytics systems to assess portfolio exposure, concentration, and performance across business segments
• Lead cross-functional teams in executing stress tests, scenario analyses, and risk assessments that inform strategic planning and capital allocation decisions
• Develop comprehensive risk reporting frameworks, executive dashboards, and regulatory disclosures that clearly communicate portfolio health and risk profile to leadership and external stakeholders
• Identify and recommend portfolio optimization strategies to enhance returns, balance risk, and achieve business objectives
• Ensure robust compliance with insurance regulatory requirements, risk management standards, and corporate governance expectations
• Build, mentor, and lead high-performing analytics teams, fostering professional development and a culture of analytical rigor and innovation

Skills & Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in statistics, mathematics, actuarial science, economics, engineering, or related quantitative discipline; advanced degree is a plus
• Minimum 10+ years of professional experience in portfolio risk management, insurance analytics, actuarial work, or comparable quantitative roles
• Demonstrated success leading teams and managing large-scale analytical initiatives in insurance, financial services, or similar industries
• Expert-level capability with statistical modeling, data analysis platforms, programming languages, and business intelligence tools
• Deep knowledge of property and casualty insurance fundamentals, including underwriting economics, claims dynamics, and loss reserving
• Excellent communication and presentation skills; ability to distill technical analysis into clear, actionable business recommendations for non-technical audiences
• Proven experience with regulatory reporting, risk governance frameworks, and compliance in highly regulated environments
