Exeter SAU 16 is seeking a full-time Maintenance Technician / Painter to ensure the safe operation and upkeep of school facilities across the district. Based in SAU 16, this role offers hands-on work maintaining, repairing, and improving the physical infrastructure that supports our educational mission.
Role Overview
As a Maintenance Technician / Painter, you will be essential to our facilities team, working under the direction of the Director of Facilities. Your responsibilities span a wide range of maintenance and repair tasks across school buildings—from routine upkeep and interior/exterior painting to responding to facility requests and identifying potential issues before they become problems. You'll combine technical skills with attention to detail to keep our school environments safe, functional, and well-maintained for students, staff, and visitors.
Responsibilities
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on building systems, equipment, and structural components
- Prepare surfaces, apply paint, and finish interior and exterior areas to specification
- Repair or replace fixtures, doors, walls, flooring, and other facility elements
- Respond to maintenance requests and work orders in a timely manner
- Conduct regular facility inspections and report maintenance needs or safety concerns
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment while following all safety protocols
- Document work completed and track materials used
- Collaborate with facilities team members and district staff as required
Qualifications
- Prior experience in maintenance, custodial work, or a related skilled trade
- Knowledge of building systems, maintenance procedures, and common repair techniques
- Proficiency in painting, surface preparation, and finishing work
- Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, and equipment
- Strong reliability, work ethic, and attention to detail
- Comfort working in a school environment committed to student safety
