Chief Building Official – P&CD

The City of East Point seeks a Chief Building Official – P&CD to lead code enforcement and field inspection operations in East Point, Fulton County. About the Role

As Chief Building Official, you'll oversee the Department of Permit, Construction, and Development, directing inspections and enforcement activities that safeguard community standards. This role combines hands-on field work with administrative leadership, establishing protocols, supervising inspection staff, and maintaining compliance documentation. The position reports to the City Manager and serves as the primary building official for all development activities in East Point.

What You'll Do

• Conduct and oversee field inspections of residential and commercial construction at all project phases, from foundation through final occupancy
• Verify code compliance for electrical, plumbing, HVAC, structural, and mechanical systems according to applicable building codes
• Inspect erosion control, stormwater management, and sediment controls to meet environmental standards
• Issue permits, certificates of occupancy, and violation notices as warranted
• Manage permit applications, coordinate with contractors and property owners, and maintain inspection records
• Supervise inspectors and coordinate with Planning, Public Works, and other City departments
• Interpret and apply building and development codes consistently

What We're Looking For

• Valid Georgia Chief Building Official certification or eligibility to obtain
• 5+ years of building inspection or code enforcement experience
• Knowledge of residential and commercial construction practices, materials, and methods
• Familiarity with modern building codes and Georgia regulations
• Strong communication skills and ability to work with diverse stakeholders
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation for field inspections

This full-time position offers a competitive salary ranging from $71,463 to $110,768 annually, with a typical starting salary near $95,000 depending on qualifications and experience.
