Join Stantec as an On-Call Archaeologist in Sacramento, California. We're expanding our Northern California archaeological team to support growing project demand, and we're seeking experienced field archaeologists ready to work on dynamic, seasonally-driven projects across the Western United States.
About the Role
This is a full-time, on-call position focused on fieldwork. As an On-Call Archaeologist with Stantec, you'll be part of our expanding Sacramento-based team managing archaeological investigations throughout Northern California and beyond. Your work will directly support clients across California, with potential projects in Alaska, Oregon, Washington, and Nevada. Work needs are heavily influenced by seasonal weather patterns and project schedules.
What You'll Do
- Conduct field-based archaeological surveys, excavations, and site monitoring
- Lead documentation, artifact analysis, and detailed data collection
- Collaborate with project managers and multidisciplinary teams on cultural resource assessments
- Respond to project needs with flexibility, adapting to seasonal workflows and geographic variability
- Maintain compliance with federal and state archaeological standards and regulations
- Support both field investigations and occasional office-based project coordination
What We're Looking For
- Degree in archaeology, anthropology, or related field
- Hands-on field experience in archaeological survey, excavation, or monitoring
- Strong communication and teamwork capabilities
- Flexibility to travel and work seasonally in response to project demands
- Knowledge of California and Western US archaeology, regulations, and best practices
- Physical ability to work in outdoor field conditions
