You'll work Sunday and Saturday evenings (3:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.) creating and maintaining a secure, supportive environment where residents experiencing homelessness can stabilize and build toward permanent housing.
About the Role
This position is central to our interim housing operations. You'll blend environmental awareness with genuine care for residents, using relationship-building, calm communication, and evidence-based conflict management to help people feel safe and supported. Working closely with case managers and security teams, you'll respond to challenges as they emerge while staying focused on each resident's dignity and potential for recovery.
What You'll Do
- Walk the facility regularly, observing conditions, identifying hazards or maintenance needs, and reporting concerns promptly to supervisors
- Build trust with residents through respectful presence, active listening, and consistent availability
- Work alongside case managers to coordinate support services and monitor how residents are adjusting
- Apply de-escalation and non-violent crisis intervention techniques when tensions or emergencies arise, always prioritizing safety and respect
- Partner with contracted security providers to ensure all safety protocols are understood and followed
- Document safety observations, resident interactions, and incident outcomes in clear, accurate written records
- Help develop and refine safety procedures, security guidelines, and operational manuals for the site
- Attend team meetings and contribute insights about what's working and where we can do better
- Complete incident reports and safety logs as requested by management
What We're Looking For
Successful candidates demonstrate these core qualities:
- Strong Observation Skills: Ability to notice patterns, changes, or concerns in your environment and communicate them clearly and accurately
- Teamwork and Relationship Building: Comfort working with diverse groups—residents, case managers, supervisors, security partners—and contributing positively to shared goals
- Clear Communication: Strength in expressing yourself both verbally and in writing so others understand and remember what matters
- Proactive Problem-Solving: Inclination to identify issues early, take initiative, and think creatively about solutions
- Emotional Maturity: Capacity to stay calm under pressure, respond with empathy to distress, maintain professional boundaries, and reflect on your own reactions
- Ethical Standards: Commitment to honesty, integrity, confidentiality, and doing the right thing even when it's difficult
Preferred Experience
- One or more years working with populations experiencing homelessness, substance use disorders, mental illness, or other vulnerabilities
- Background in security, facility operations, or loss prevention
- Training or certification in de-escalation, crisis intervention, or conflict resolution
Basic Requirements
- Ability to obtain CPR and First Aid certification (PATH covers the cost)
- Flexibility to work weekends and respond to scheduling changes as needed
- Valid U.S. work authorization (PATH cannot sponsor visa sponsorship)
- Passing background screening (may include LAX, Veterans Affairs, Sheriff, or contract-specific clearance) and drug test
- Current tuberculosis test
- All work performed within California
