Garfield Heights City Schools is hiring a Soccer Assistant Coach for our high school athletics program in Garfield Heights, Cuyahoga County. This part-time position offers an opportunity to develop athletes' skills, foster team culture, and contribute to a competitive soccer program serving the Garfield Heights community.
About the Role
As Soccer Assistant Coach at Garfield Heights High School, you'll work alongside the head coach to support student-athletes on and off the field. This position combines technical instruction, player development, and mentorship to help build a winning team while promoting athletic excellence and sportsmanship.
What You'll Do
- Conduct skill-building drills and position-specific training during practice sessions
- Assist with game preparation, strategy development, and in-game coaching decisions
- Mentor student-athletes on fitness, technique, discipline, and team dynamics
- Monitor player performance, health, and safety during practices and competitions
- Support recruiting efforts and athlete recruitment activities as directed
- Maintain equipment and facilities in accordance with school standards
- Communicate with parents, athletes, and administrative staff regarding team progress and player development
- Uphold athletic department policies and represent Garfield Heights City Schools with professionalism
What We're Looking For
- Proven knowledge of soccer fundamentals, tactics, and player development
- Experience coaching high school athletes or equivalent competitive soccer background
- Strong communication and motivational skills
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment with other coaching staff
- Commitment to student-athlete welfare, safety, and academic success
- Valid driver's license and ability to pass a background check
- Current or ability to obtain coaching certifications as required by Garfield Heights City Schools
