About the Role
As County Attorney, you'll be the County's senior legal officer, providing strategic counsel on complex municipal, legislative, and civil matters that shape Calvert County's operations and future. You'll serve as a trusted advisor to elected officials and county management, managing legal risk and ensuring the County's compliance with applicable law.
What You'll Do
- Advise the Board of County Commissioners and executive leadership on legal matters affecting county operations and policy
- Represent Calvert County in litigation, claims, and legal proceedings
- Draft, review, and analyze ordinances, resolutions, contracts, and legal documents
- Lead and oversee the Office of the County Attorney, including legal staff and office operations
- Develop and execute legal compliance and risk management strategies
- Handle legislative matters and provide counsel on government relations issues
- Negotiate and resolve disputes on behalf of the County
What We're Looking For
- Licensed attorney with substantial experience in local government law, municipal law, or administrative law
- Demonstrated expertise in strategic legal counsel and problem-solving for government entities
- Strong knowledge of public administration, municipal governance, and legislative processes
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to translate complex legal concepts for non-lawyer audiences
- Proven leadership ability in managing legal teams and office administration
- Commitment to public service and support for Calvert County's mission
