Business Planner I

United States Steel Corporation is looking for a Business Planner I to support production planning and order fulfillment at its Portage, Porter County facility in a full‑time capacity.

The role focuses on aligning customer demand with manufacturing capacity to keep operations running smoothly.

What You'll Do

• Coordinate the intake and scheduling of customer orders to ensure timely processing.
• Oversee the planning and sequencing of primary mill operations, including hot rolling and finishing lines.
• Maintain optimal levels of work‑in‑process and finished goods inventory through regular monitoring and adjustment.
• Arrange outbound logistics and shipment of completed orders in accordance with delivery commitments.
• Partner with production, sales, and supply‑chain teams to resolve scheduling conflicts and improve throughput.
• Utilize ERP and manufacturing execution systems to track order status and generate performance reports.
• Support continuous‑improvement initiatives by analyzing scheduling data and recommending process enhancements.

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor’s degree in business, supply chain, industrial engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
• Proven experience in production planning, order scheduling, or inventory control within a manufacturing environment.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and make sound scheduling decisions.
• Proficiency with ERP platforms (e.g., SAP, Oracle) and Microsoft Excel for reporting and forecasting.
• Excellent communication and collaboration abilities to work effectively across shifts and departments.
• Detail‑oriented mindset focused on meeting customer delivery dates while optimizing resource utilization.
• Knowledge of steelmaking processes or hot‑rolling operations is a plus but not required.
