ROI Medical Records Specialist

MRO Corporation is hiring a full-time ROI Medical Records Specialist to support client operations in Crystal, Hennepin County. In this role, you'll manage the processing of patient Release of Information requests, verify compliance with privacy regulations, and help ensure patients can access their medical records efficiently and securely.

About the Role

As an ROI Medical Records Specialist at our client site, you'll be the key point of contact for handling patient information access requests. This position requires careful attention to detail, strong knowledge of healthcare privacy law, and the ability to work with both digital and physical records in a fast-paced environment.

What You'll Do

• Process Release of Information requests from patients, authorized representatives, and healthcare providers
• Verify requestor identity and authorization status to confirm each request meets legal and regulatory requirements
• Retrieve patient medical records from multiple systems—including electronic health records, off-site storage facilities, and archived paper files
• Review records to identify which documents should be released based on the scope of each request
• Maintain strict adherence to HIPAA and other applicable privacy regulations throughout the entire process
• Organize, prepare, and compile records for release in the appropriate format
• Respond to requests in a timely manner and communicate status updates to requestors
• Keep detailed records of all release transactions for audit and compliance purposes

What We're Looking For

• Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and healthcare privacy requirements
• Experience processing medical records requests or working in a healthcare records environment
• Ability to accurately review and interpret patient medical documentation
• Strong organizational and time management skills
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in handling sensitive information
• Proficiency with electronic medical record systems (preferred)
• Reliable transportation and ability to work on-site at the client location in Crystal, Hennepin County
• Professional demeanor and commitment to patient confidentiality
