Core Facility Research Specialist – Iowa Neuroscience Institute

The University of Iowa (UIOWA) is hiring a full-time Core Facility Research Specialist to join the Iowa Neuroscience Institute in Iowa City, Johnson County, and help drive discovery into how the brain works in both health and disease.

About the Role

As a Core Facility Research Specialist, you will provide bioinformatics support across the institute's research programs. The position centers on processing and interpreting large, complex datasets generated by leading-edge studies of the neural circuits and molecular pathways that shape brain function. You will apply established computational tools and analytical workflows to turn raw experimental data into meaningful, reproducible results for investigators.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct bioinformatics analyses of large-scale datasets produced by neuroscience research projects.
• Examine data tied to neural circuit activity and the molecular mechanisms underlying brain function in healthy and diseased states.
• Use existing computational pipelines, scripts, and software to manage, process, and interpret experimental results.
• Partner with researchers and core facility staff to deliver accurate, well-documented analytical output.
• Maintain rigorous, reproducible records of methods and findings to support ongoing investigations.

Qualifications

• Background in bioinformatics, computational biology, neuroscience, or a closely related scientific field.
• Practical experience analyzing large biological or genomic datasets.
• Familiarity with established bioinformatics tools and data-analysis workflows.
• Strong attention to detail, organization, and clear scientific communication.
• Ability to collaborate effectively within a shared research core environment.
